Founder Yi-Mei Truxes was inspired to create a line of bags evoking the nostalgia of 1970’s perennial style after seeing a woman on the streets of  New York and on her shoulder swung a perfect, woven basket bag. Yi-Mei Truxes eventually found a small village of artisan weavers in Bali to produce the bag she had seen and envisioned. And thus, Bembien was born.
